Think about colours and what comes to our mind first is rainbow, dose of all colours together. Well how does rainbow get formed? Through various phenomenon like reflection, refraction and dispersion of one white light. But do we think of white as colour. It’s generally associated with peace, purity, goodness, cleanliness etc. And that’s a little boring as compared to the other vivid colours in the spectrum. If we consider physics white light contains all the wavelengths of visible light. On the other hand black is absence of visible light and the colour black is associated with aggression, rebel, death, evil, strength, elegance, exactly different to colour white association. Black signifies darkness and white signifies brightness/ peace. A colour is good or bad is what we have created, not the colour by itself. Colours have been associated to our lifestyle as per our nature of looking at them. For some one colour would be liked/dis-liked over the other colours. Every individual cannot be expected to like all the colours in the rainbows.
Colours are simple creation of one white light source. In ayurveda the five elements are also linked with colours –
Ether is associated with light blue colour
Air is associated with green colour
Fire is associated with red colour
Water is associated with deep blue colour
Earth is associated with yellow and brown colour shades
From these five elements are formed the Tri (three)doshas of our body. And the same tridosha are also said to be associated with colours. That is the reason why it is believed that wearing colours associated with a dosha can help to fix the imbalance of that dosha.
Vata dosha is associated with blue colour and its shades
Pitta dosha is associated with bright red and shades
Kapha dosha is associated with yellow and brown colour shades
And hence it is seen that a particular colour looks good one individual over the other. The colours are said to have the ability to increase or decrease the dosha it is associated with. Hence people of a particular dosha prakriti (having the dominance of particular dosha) like or said to beautify by a particular colour pertaining to the dosha. The dominance of dosha also depends on every season.
Colour effects on Dosha –
Black colour increases all dosha
Sky blue colour increases vata
Blue colour increases all the dosha
Brown colour increases kapha dosha
Gold colour increases pitta and decreases vata and kapha dosha
Green colour increases Kapha dosha
Orange colour increases Pitta dosha and decreases vata and kapha dosha
Red colour increases vata and pitta dosha and decreases Kapha dosha
Yellow colour increases all dosha especially kapha dosha
White colour increases kapha dosha and decreases Vata and pitta dosha
